Scripture Focus: Mataio 6:25-34
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
- Matthew 6:25-34 (KJV)
Study:
In this passage from the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus instructs His followers not to worry about their basic needs such as food, drink, and clothing. He points to the birds of the air and the lilies of the field as examples of God’s provision and care. Though the birds do not sow or reap, God feeds them; and though the lilies toil not, God clothes them beautifully. Jesus emphasizes that human life and worth surpass these, and therefore God’s care over us is far greater. The passage calls believers to trust in God's providence, seek first His kingdom and righteousness, and let go of anxious thoughts about the future.
Application:
Today, many of us face various worries—about finances, health, relationships, and more. Jesus’ words remind us to place our trust in God rather than letting anxiety control us. Seeking God’s kingdom first means prioritizing our relationship with Him and living according to His will. When we do this, we can be confident that God knows our needs and will provide. This encourages us to live with peace and purpose, focusing on what truly matters rather than being consumed by worry about material concerns or uncertain tomorrows.
Reflection Questions:
- What are some worries that frequently occupy your thoughts?
- How can you practically seek God’s kingdom and righteousness more in your daily life?
- In what ways can reflecting on God’s care for creation strengthen your faith to stop worrying?
- How might focusing on today’s responsibilities instead of tomorrow’s anxieties bring peace to your heart?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to trust You with my needs and not be consumed by worry. Teach me to seek Your kingdom first and rely on Your faithful provision every day. Give me peace and courage to face today without fear of tomorrow. Amen.
