Scripture Focus: Ioane 10:14-16
I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and I’m known by my own; even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep, which are not of this fold.I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice. They will become one flock with one shepherd.
- John 10:14-16 (WEB)
Study:
This passage reveals the deep, intimate relationship Jesus has with those who follow Him. He isn’t just *a* shepherd; He is the *good* shepherd, emphasizing His loving care and sacrificial nature. The phrase “I know my own, and I’m known by my own” speaks to a mutual recognition and relationship based on love and trust. Just as the Father knows the Son and vice-versa, Jesus knows and is known by His followers. He doesn’t merely recognize us as individuals, but understands our hearts, our struggles, and our needs. Furthermore, Jesus highlights that His concern extends beyond those currently within the ‘fold’—those already believing. He actively seeks those who are lost and desires to bring them into a unified community of faith, one flock under His leadership. This call to unity across boundaries reflects a wider vision of God's love for all humanity.
Application:
In our modern world, it’s easy to feel lost and disconnected. We can feel like just a number, anonymous amongst the masses. This passage reminds us that Jesus knows us intimately, personally. As youth, your journey of faith is uniquely your own, yet you are not alone. Jesus calls you by name and walks with you. The image of bringing in 'other sheep' challenges us to actively reach out to those who feel excluded or who haven’t yet experienced God’s love, just as Jesus does. It’s a call to compassion, inclusivity, and sharing the Good News with others. As youth, you are equipped with passion and energy to be the hands and feet of Jesus in your communities and beyond.
Reflection Questions:
- How does it comfort you to know that Jesus knows you personally?
- In what ways can you practically demonstrate Jesus’ love and acceptance to someone who feels lost or excluded?
- How can you actively participate in ‘bringing in other sheep’ into God’s fold within your youth group, school, or community?
- What does it mean to you to be part of 'one flock' with other believers?
Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for being the Good Shepherd who knows and loves us deeply. Help us to trust in your care, to share your love with others, and to grow closer to you each day. Guide us as we seek to bring others into your flock and create a community of faith filled with unity and compassion. Amen.
