Scripture Focus: Kalatia 2:1–14

Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.
- Galatians 2:1–14 (KJV)

Study:

In Galatians 2:1–14, Paul recounts a pivotal moment in the early Church when he courageously confronted controversial issues about Gentile inclusion. After fourteen years, Paul goes to Jerusalem with Barnabas and Titus, seeking agreement among apostles about the acceptance of Gentile believers without forcing them to follow the Jewish law. This passage reveals the challenges of change within a faith community, highlighting how Paul stood firm in defending the gospel of grace. His boldness in addressing sensitive issues shows that change within the Church is often necessary and requires courage, faith, and a focus on unity rather than division.

Application:

Today, many believers face change in their Church or personal faith journeys. Like Paul, we must recognize that change demands courage, especially when challenging long-held traditions or confronting uncomfortable truths. This passage encourages us to stand firm in God's truth while being open to the Spirit’s leading to adapt and embrace new understandings. Change is not about division but about growth and unity in Christ. We can pray for wisdom and strength to navigate changes faithfully and lovingly within our communities.

Reflection Questions:

  • What changes in your faith community or personal life require courage right now?
  • How can you hold firmly to God's truth while remaining open to necessary change?
  • In what ways does Paul’s example of courage inspire you to respond to conflict or disagreement?
  • How can you promote unity rather than division when change is challenging others?

Prayer:

Lord, grant me the courage to embrace change when You call for it. Help me to stand firmly in Your truth, to seek unity, and to be a vessel of grace. Strengthen me to face challenges without fear and to trust Your Spirit to guide every step. Amen.
