Scripture Focus: Roma 10:6-17

But the righteousness which is of faith says this, “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down); or, ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.)” But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart”; that is, the word of faith, which we preach: that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on him. For, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!” But they didn’t all listen to the glad news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Study:

This passage from Romans emphasizes the fundamental truth that salvation comes through confessing Jesus as Lord and believing in His resurrection. It highlights that righteousness is not earned by human effort or by ascending to heaven to retrieve Christ, but rather by faith rooted in His word that is close to us—both in our hearts and mouths. Paul stresses the universality of Christ's lordship, breaking down cultural and ethnic barriers, affirming that salvation is accessible to all who call on the name of the Lord. The passage also underscores the vital role of preaching in spreading the Good News, for faith arises through hearing the message of Christ.

Application:

Today, this passage reminds us to confidently declare Jesus as Lord in our daily lives, both in words and deeds. Faith is not a distant or inaccessible concept; it is near and personal, residing in our hearts and expressed through our testimonies. We are also called to support those who preach and spread the gospel, recognizing their crucial role in nurturing faith in others. As believers, we must trust that God's righteousness through faith is sufficient for salvation and that this gift is open to all regardless of background.

Reflection Questions:

  • Do I truly confess Jesus as Lord in my daily words and actions?
  • How does the nearness of God’s word affect my faith and confidence in salvation?
  • In what ways can I support and participate in sharing the gospel with others?
  • Do I recognize and appreciate that salvation is offered freely to all people?
  • How has hearing the Word of God shaped my faith journey?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I confess You as my Lord and Savior. Help me to believe wholeheartedly in Your resurrection power and to live out my faith boldly. Thank You for making salvation available to everyone who calls Your name. Strengthen me to listen to Your Word and to share it faithfully with others. May my life be a testimony of Your grace and love. Amen.
