April is always a spiritually significant month for the EFKS family, and the April 2025 edition of Sulu Samoa beautifully captures the heart of our church life and faith journey. Here’s a detailed look at the key themes, special events, and inspiring stories featured this month.
Spiritual Reflections:
“Fono Ua Vevesi” – When Meetings Are in Turmoil
The lead sermon for April, based on Matthew 26:59–65, is titled “Fono Ua Vevesi” (“Meeting in Turmoil”). It draws a powerful parallel between the chaos of Jesus’ trial before the Jewish leaders and the unrest that can arise in our own communities and hearts. The message reminds us that division, jealousy, and unforgiveness are rooted in a lack of love – and that only God’s love can bring true peace and unity.
“O se lē alofa, ua le ia te ia le Atua, aua o le Atua o le Alofa lava ia.”
“Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:8)
We are called to let go of bitterness and embrace humility, forgiveness, and compassion – just as Christ did, even in the face of betrayal and false accusations.
Holy Week & Easter: Remembering the Heart of the Gospel
April’s calendar is marked by Holy Week, beginning with Palm Sunday, moving through Good Friday, and culminating in Easter Sunday. The Gospel of Luke guided our reflections, highlighting Jesus’ compassion for the outcast and the universal reach of salvation.
Special services, Sunday School programs, and youth activities all focused on the meaning of Christ’s sacrifice and the hope of resurrection. The resurrection story, especially as told by Luke, reminds us that the empty tomb is a sign of new life for all who believe.
Church Events: Celebrating Milestones in Ministry
- Pastoral Covenant at EFKS Lufilufi
A major highlight this month was the installation of the new pastor and wife at EFKS Lufilufi – Susuga Konelio Tuiai FS and Faletua Iota. The covenant service, held on Friday, April 25, was led by Anoamaa District Superintendent, with support from ministers, church dignitaries, government officials, and the wider Lufilufi community.
This event wasn’t just a formality – it was a heartfelt celebration of unity and commitment, as the congregation pledged to support their new spiritual leaders in building up the church. - Dedication of the New Pastor’s Residence
Immediately following the covenant service, the congregation dedicated a brand-new pastor’s house. The previous residence had been demolished for safety, and the new home was built on higher ground, surrounded by a protective wall. The dedication was led by church leaders, with the ribbon cut by the superintendent’s wife.
A $10,000 gift from the national church was presented to support the congregation’s efforts, reflecting the EFKS tradition of honoring and caring for its ministers. - A Growing Trend Across the Church
The Sulu Samoa notes that building new residences for pastors is a growing trend across Samoa and in overseas congregations. Recent dedications in Lotofaga, Toamua, Sinamoga, and others reflect the church’s ongoing commitment to supporting its leaders and ensuring they have safe, suitable homes for ministry.
Stories & Testimonies: Faith in Action
- Reflections on Conflict and Forgiveness
The main sermon’s theme was echoed in personal stories and testimonies throughout the edition. Members shared about the dangers of division and the healing power of love and forgiveness – both in the church and in the wider community.
We’re reminded that even when society is noisy and divided, the church must remain anchored in Christ’s example of self-sacrifice and reconciliation. - Testimonies of Service and Sacrifice
The journey of the new Lufilufi pastor was highlighted – from theological training at Malua, to ordination, and now to serving his home community. The congregation’s commitment to support their leaders was evident, as was the recognition of retired pastors and their families for years of faithful service. - Stories of Trusting God with What’s in Your Hand
Drawing from the story of Moses (Exodus 4), members were encouraged to offer whatever gifts or resources they have to God, trusting that He can use even the simplest things for His purposes.
These testimonies inspire us to serve with what we have, knowing God can transform our ordinary into His extraordinary.
