Scripture Focus: Galuega 5:27-32

When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The high priest questioned them, saying, “Didn’t we strictly command you not to teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us.” But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed, hanging him on a tree. God exalted him with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins. We are His witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

Study:

In this passage, Peter boldly declares the truth before the Jewish council. Despite threats, he affirms the essential Christian confession: God has raised Jesus from the dead and exalted Him to a position of honor and power. Peter emphasizes that Jesus is both Prince and Savior, given authority by God to grant forgiveness and call people to repentance. As witnesses of these facts, Peter and the apostles rely on the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to carry out their mission. Their steadfast obedience to God rather than men highlights the cost and courage of proclaiming the gospel.

Application:

Today, Peter's witness challenges us to prioritize obedience to God above all else. When we recognize Jesus as Lord and Savior, we are called to live courageously, sharing our faith even when faced with opposition or persecution. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to be effective witnesses, helping us to stay faithful in our testimony. This passage reminds us that Jesus’ exaltation is our assurance of hope and the foundation for our mission in the world.

Reflection Questions:

  • How do I respond when faced with pressure to compromise my faith?
  • In what ways have I witnessed to others about Jesus recently?
  • How can I better rely on the Holy Spirit for courage and guidance?
  • What does recognizing Jesus as both Prince and Savior mean for my daily life?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for raising Jesus and exalting Him as Prince and Savior. Help me to obey You rather than fear others, to be a faithful witness empowered by Your Spirit. Strengthen my courage and deepen my trust in Your plan. May my life reflect Your love and bring glory to Your name. Amen.
